Gayathri Asokan is a singer who has made her mark worldwide in Indian film music, Hindustani classical and ghazal genres. She started training in Carnatic music at a very young age from Sri Nedumangat Shashidharan, Sri Mangat Nateshan and Sri Vamanan Namboodori. After finishing her Masters in Literature, she started training in Hindustani classical music under the tutelage of Vidushi Alka Deo Marulkar in Poona. After three years of intensive training, she got her big break in playback singing under the music direction of the great Ravindran master. Her debut was a duet with Padmabhushan Sri K. J . Yesudas for the movie Arayannangalude Veedu. The song Deena Dayalo Rama went on to become a big hit. Very soon, she got the chance to work with Maestro Ilayaraja for the movie Kochukochu santoshangal.
